What is a moot?Moot is a Scottish word for gathering. Rovers use the word to refer to their special gatherings, which are held in New Zealand every year.The location for New Zealand moot moves to different parts of the country each time, so you get to see what New Zealand really has to offer. New Zealand Moot always happens at Easter time from Good Friday to Easter Monday thats a whole four days including one day of tours and half a day for service. On Easter weekend 25th until the 28th March 2005, Canterbury Area are hosting a Moot at Eyrewell Forest just thirty minutes drive from Christchurch. So there will be plenty to see and do. We normally have between 100 to 150 rovers from all around New Zealand and even overseas attend Moot so don't miss out. |
When is Medieval Moot?Participants can start to arrive at moot site from 18.00 hours (6pm) on Thursday the 24th March 2005; the opening ceremony will start at around 09.00 hours (9am) on Friday the 25th. The closing ceremony will finish at around 10.00 hours (10am) on Monday the 28th from then on you can go home and tell all your friends what a awesome time you had. |
Where is Medieval Moot going to be?Moot site for 2005 is at Eyrewell Forest just 30 minutes drive northwest of the Christchurch, Across the Waimakariri River. The site use to be forestry accommodation but now has become a camping facility with bunkrooms, large halls and hot showers. |
Who can come to moot?To be able to attend Medieval Moot there are two options.The first is as a participant, which means you have to be a member of the Scouting Association this includes; full Rovers, Squires and Youth Leaders between the ages of 18 to 26 year old. Associate Rovers are also welcome between the ages of 26 to 34 years old, you have to be an invested Associate Rover of your crew. The second option is there is a small number of adults required as staff members. Adults holding warrants from any section of the movement as well as Associate Rovers are welcome to apply. International Rovers will also need to seek approval from their National Office. |
What will the moot cost me?The fee for Medieval Moot has been set at NZD$299:00. There is also a tour cost on top of the moot fee, you can check out the tour prices on the Website www.medievalmoot.comPlus you will need extra spending money for any merchandise and for bar cards. |
What is a bar card?Bar cards provide an easy way to buy drinks at Moot. Drinks including beer, spirits, RTDs (ready to drink premixes) soft drinks and bar food (e.g. toasted sandwiches). They are usually cards marked with squares that bar staff can mark off when you purchase drinks etc. You will be able to purchase these throughout Moot. This eliminates cash transactions across the bar. |
When do applications close?They will close on the 31st January 2005 so lets start getting those forms and the deposit of NZD$50:00 in now, so don't leave it to the last minute or you may not get the tour you wanted. |

Do you take eftpos ?Yes we do have eftpos on site so you can pay for your fees and any merchandise you may have purchased. But we can't accept credit cards sorry. |
What is a tour?Its a one day activity which you chose from a list on the application form.The prices for tours range from NZD$15:00 to NZD$199:00. You make your choose when you send in your application form, the tour will be on a first in first served basis. |
How can I travel to and from moot site?We will arrange for buses to collect and drop off people at the Christchurch International Airport. You can also drive direct to site. |
What are the accommodations?We have a limited amount of bunkrooms available but this will be on a first in first served basis, so get that form in fast. The rest will be accommodated in tents provided, so you will have to bring all your own bedding. |
Can I choose to bring my own tent instead?Yes you can just tick the appropriate box on the application form so that we know. The moot fee will be still be the same regardless if you are using our tents or your own. The tents we will be providing will be quite large and have floors. |

1) Fill in forms ALL of them! (Download from Website) 2) Sign the forms. 3) Fill in your Merchandise form. (Download from Website) 4) Get District Commissioner/Branch Leader/Area Commissioner to sign. 5) Attach NZD$50.00 deposit cheque made out to "The Scout Association of New Zealand - Rover Moot" 6) Add Passport photo. 7) Detach forms that you have filled out. 8) Send to 63rd National rover Moot, NO LATER than 31 January 2005. PO Box 33058 Barrington Christchurch New Zealand 9) Stick (using magnet not glue) the rest of this moot info to the fridge so you have it handy. 10) Send the BALANCE by 14th March 2005.
